There’s an index known as the Baltic Dry Index.

It measures the cost of moving major raw materials by sea.

The Baltic Dry Index is now down to around the levels we saw BEFORE the pandemic.

This is excellent news for those of us shipping goods around the world.

It’s a sigh of relief, but also a warning.

If the index gets too low, ocean carriers take notice and may reduce capacity by taking ships offline.

It may be cost-prohibitive to keep those lanes open and moving.

For now, it’s a welcome change and we hope the cost and rate of shipping remains steady and smooth.
